Destinations

Belize is divided into six districts, each with its own unique characteristics and attractions. Here is an overview of each district:

  1. Belize District: The Belize District is the most populous district in the country and is home to the largest city in Belize, Belize City. The district is also home to a number of Mayan ruins, including Altun Ha and Lamanai, as well as the Belize Zoo.

  2. Cayo District: The Cayo District is the largest district in Belize and is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, including the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and the Rio Frio Cave. The district is also home to the Maya archaeological sites of Caracol and Xunantunich.

  3. Corozal District: The Corozal District is located in the northern part of Belize and shares a border with Mexico. The district is known for its beaches and proximity to the ancient Maya city of Chetumal.

  4. Orange Walk District: The Orange Walk District is located in the northern part of Belize and is known for its sugar cane fields and Mayan ruins, including Lamanai.

  5. Stann Creek District: The Stann Creek District is located in the southeastern part of Belize and is home to the popular tourist destination of Placencia, known for its beautiful beaches and coral reefs. The district is also home to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area known for its jaguar population.

  6. Toledo District: The Toledo District is located in the southernmost part of Belize and is known for its rich cultural heritage and beautiful natural landscapes, including the Rio Blanco National Park and the Mayan ruins of Nim Li Punit. The district is also home to a number of indigenous communities, including the Kekchi and Mopan Maya.
